Reliving the Past: 1974-1976 vs. 2022-2024?

The movie history of the franchise Godzilla has always been a subject of fascination and debate amongst movie fanatics. It is often argued that certain visuals, story arcs, or even characters repeat themselves throughout the years. As it turns out, the 1974-1976 period in Godzilla’s history is of particular interest since it could be determined as its most important chapter in contemporary times. It includes what have been called by fans the most beloved films of the series, such as “Godzilla vs. Mechagodzilla” and “Terror of Mechagodzilla”. But could it be possible that in the near future, these two years could repeat themselves once again?

A recently unearthed analysis of the Godzilla franchise seems to suggest so. According to the analysis, Godzilla’s future could actually be a direct sequel of its past, where the events of 1974-76 could be almost repeated in 2022-24. This would not be the first time the franchise recycles its past, as proven by the introduction of Mechagodzilla in 1974-76 and again in 1993-95.
