The political world has been abuzz as Floria Governor Ron DeSantis and California Governor Gavin Newsom have agreed to a one hour long televised debate that will air in November. The debate will be hosted by Fox News and the two are expected to discuss a wide range of topics.
The news of the debate comes in the wake of DeSantis’s strong success in tackling Covid19 in his state. DeSantis has maintained a fairly hands-off approach when it comes to the virus, much different than other governors who have implemented heavy stringent regulations. The governor’s style has earned mixed reviews across the nation, but he has been able to maintain power and the support of his state citizens throughout.
Newsom on the other hand, has taken an opposite approach. While his early stay-at-home orders made sense in the scope of the pandemic, his later restrictions and lockdowns have been far more stringent. While his methods have been more liked overall in the nation, a large subset of Californians have loudly opposed his decisions. This subset of his state citizens have grown more strongly in numbers as restrictions continued, making the upcoming debate interesting to watch.
The debate itself promises to provide a great look into the thoughts and minds of two very different governors. While both men have had successes in their respective states, DeSantis has shown to be far more lenient and trusting of the people than Newsom in some necessities. It will be interesting to see how their respective approaches will clash in the debate.
The debate will air live on Fox News in October, and is guaranteed to draw plenty of views as it is currently shaping up to be one of the most interesting debates of the year.
