The Pantomime Primary’s Endless Debate: Will It Ever End?

The pantomime primary for the 2020 presidential election is well under way, and it appears to be growing ever more interesting by the day. As with every election, there are certain issues that stand out and have been hotly debated in the media. One of the most prominent topics this year is health care.

Politicians from both sides of the aisle have been vocal about their positions on health care. Republicans generally argue for a focus on market-centered reforms, while Democrats have focused their efforts on proposing a universal (or single-payer) system. The debate on this topic has been particularly heated, making it one of the defining political issues of the election season.

Another area of fierce debate has been immigration. Republicans have tended to favor hard-line approaches to the issue, while Democrats have pushed for more compassionate and generous reforms. This divide has only been exacerbated by Democratic presidential candidate Joe Biden’s recent campaign pledge to introduce a pathway to citizenship for undocumented immigrants living in the US.

But the pantomiming of the primary election doesn’t end there. Climate change, education, and the economy are all topics that have elicited much heated debate between the presidential hopefuls. And while some differences can be seen in the platforms of the two major parties, much of the discussion revolves around how best to address the issues at hand.

It’s clear that the pantomime primary is no less a debate than the more formalized general election debates. It is the people’s chance to voice their opinion and engage in a meaningful dialogue on the key issues facing our nation. While some will argue that it lacks the depth of the general election debates, it is nonetheless an important part of the democratic process, and the pantomime primary should be taken just as seriously.
