New York City Mayor Eric Adams is being investigated over alleged sexual assault.
The accusation, which has been made public by New York City newspapers, comes at a time when Mayor Adams is facing intense scrutiny over his management of the COVID-19 pandemic and other issues in the city. However, no charges have been filed yet and Mayor Adams has strongly denied any wrong doing.
The sexual assault allegation is based on a 2017 incident that allegedly took place between Adams and an unidentified individual. According to the reports, Adams allegedly invited the individual to his house where he groped and touched them without consent. Although the victim has not been identified and the specifics of the allegation remain unclear, it has been confirmed that Mayor Adams has been under investigation since at least May 2021.
Adams maintains that the allegations are false and is actively working to clear his name. In response to the news, he released a statement saying, “I have been falsely accused of sexual assault and I am committed to clearing my name. This accusation, as false and outrageous as it is, is also deeply hurtful. I deny any wrongdoing in the strongest terms.”
This is not the first time Adams has been accused of sexual misconduct. In 2015, he was accused of making an unwanted advance towards a female aide. Adams denied the charges and the case was eventually dismissed.
At this point, it remains unclear if the current accusation will end in charges being filed against Mayor Adams. It is important that the investigation be allowed to run its course and that Mayor Adams is treated fairly under the law. However, it is important to note that sexual assault is a serious crime and any individual who is found guilty should be held accountable for their actions.
