Israeli president slams Irish PM in CNN interview: Hostages, truces and tweets on the line

In a recent interview with CNN’s Fareed Zakaria, Israeli President Reuven Rivlin discussed a range of topics, including hostages, truces, and the recent tweet from Ireland’s Prime Minister, Micheal Martin.

Rivlin began the interview discussing the recent hostage situation involving a group of Israelis in the occupied West Bank. He said that the armed group had made numerous demands, one of which was the immediate release of the hostages. Rivlin expressed his support for a truce that would release the hostages without further violence and that he hoped to avoid a military response.

He also discussed the tweet from Ireland’s Prime Minister, Micheal Martin, that accused Israel of war crimes. Rivlin was vehement in his criticism of the tweet, calling it false and unacceptable. He went on to say that instead of criticizing Israel, Micheal Martin should focus on the relationship between Ireland and Israel and use it as an opportunity to build bridges.

Rivlin also commented on Israel’s relationship with Palestine. He emphasized the need to create an environment of trust and respect between the two sides, and he said that both sides must recognize each other’s rights. He reiterated the idea that true peace will only be achieved through communication and negotiation.

Finally, Rivlin discussed the role of the US in bringing peace to the region. He thanked US President Joe Biden for his commitment to peace and called for the US to continue to use its influence to play a leading role in the process.

Overall, Rivlin remains committed to diplomacy and dialogue in order to create peace in the region. The Israeli President is focused on finding a diplomatic solution to the hostage situation, pushing back against the recent tweets from Ireland’s Prime Minister, and building a long-term relationship between Israel and Palestine.
