The United States Department of Defense (DoD) announced today that they have granted South Star Battery Metals (SSBM), an American battery graphite manufacturer, with a multi-million dollar grant to support the acceleration of domestic battery graphite production. This funding provides SSBM the resources needed to create battery graphite particles that are non-hazardous, small, and highly capable of energy storage and retention, as well as recharging capabilities.

Graphite particles created with this grant will have the ability to sustain performance over multiple cycles of very high temperatures, making them ideal for battery graphite which is used in electric vehicles and solar energy storage. Additionally, this grant will fund the development of the tools and processes necessary for domestic industry to be able to process graphite in the United States.
