14 Lives Lost: Czech Grief for Promising Athlete, Volunteer Firefighter, and Renowned Academic

The Czech republic is in mourning following the mass shooting that took place at the University of Ostrava on Thursday, February 4th 2021. The driver of the car, who was a student at the university, opened fire on students and staff, killing fourteen and injuring dozens of others before taking his own life. Among the victims was a student of science and engineering, a promising young athlete, a volunteer firefighter, an acclaimed Philology professor and a school psychologist who was highly respected in the local community.

Milan Kacer, a student at the University of Ostrava, was described by his family as a promising scholar and a great friend. He enjoyed playing sports and was part of the basketball team at the university. He was well-known among his friends and always had a smile on his face.

Jana Galčanová, a volunteer firefighter, was fondly remembered by her colleagues as someone who was kindhearted and dedicated to the job. Her colleagues describe her as a calm person who always offered her assistance to the team, no matter the situation.

Professor Karel Valášek was an acclaimed Philology professor who was highly respected by his colleagues. Everyone remembers him as an inspiring teacher who was passionate about his work and always provided his students with a professional learning environment.

The school psychologist, Jana Šťastná, was highly praised in the local community for her work with children. Her family has described her as a loving and devoted person who was always ready to offer her support and advice.

While the victims’ families and loved ones are still trying to process the tragedy, the University of Ostrava has opened a memorial at its campus, where people can come to pay their respects and remember those who were killed. Thousands of people have come to offer their condolences to the victims’ families and express their grief at this horrific event.

This mass shooting has caused a wave of shock and grief among the public. The whole nation is filled with sadness and we are mourning the loss of these innocent lives. Our thoughts are with the families and loved ones of the victims. May they find strength during these difficult times.
