Over 1.5 Million Dehumidifiers Recalled Due to Fire and Burn Hazards
The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) has announced a recall of over 1.5 million dehumidifiers due to fire and burn hazards. The recall affects 20 different models of dehumidifiers manufactured by Gree Electric Appliances of China and sold at Walmart, Home Depot, and other retailers from January 2005 through August 2013.
The dehumidifiers can overheat, smoke, and catch fire, posing fire and burn hazards to consumers. The CPSC has received 38 reports of incidents, including two reports of fires resulting in property damage. There have been no reports of injuries.
Consumers should immediately stop using the recalled dehumidifiers and contact Gree for a full refund. Gree is offering a refund of the purchase price, plus any taxes paid. Consumers should contact Gree at (866) 853-2802 or visit the company’s website at www.greeusa.com.
The recalled dehumidifiers are white, beige, gray, or black plastic and measure between 19 and 24 inches tall, 13 and 15 inches wide, and 9 and 11 inches deep. The brand name “Gree” is printed on the front of the dehumidifier. The model numbers and date codes are printed on a label on the back, front, or side of the unit.
Consumers should check the CPSC website for a complete list of the recalled models. The recalled dehumidifiers were sold at Walmart, Home Depot, Kmart, Sears, and other retailers nationwide and online at Amazon.com from January 2005 through August 2013 for between $110 and $400.
