The storm, which was of an unprecedented strength, caused widespread destruction across the southeastern United States, and many Floridians are now facing an uncertain future.
The storm began to build up intensities in the Caribbean Sea before striking the western coast of Florida with wind speeds of up to 120 miles per hour. Idalia then proceeded to pound the coast for days, refusing to concede in its relentless assault. This monstrous storm brought with it flooding rains and a powerful storm surge that left the residential and commercial properties of Florida severely damaged. The coastal towns of Naples and Miami were especially vulnerable, being hit by a tidal wave that reached heights of up to 12 feet in some areas.
In the aftermath of Idalia, the people of Florida are now tasked with an arduous and heartbreaking recovery process.
