As the strike by members of the United Auto Workers union enters its second week, the organization has announced new locations for their picket lines.
The strike, which began two weeks ago, is a protest against several automakers, including General Motors. The UAW has argued that the automaker’s subpar wages and unfair labor practices are preventing them from improving the lives of their workers.
The strike has been ongoing for more than a week now, with more than 40,000 UAW members participating and hundreds of picket lines set up at General Motors facilities across the US.
The UAW has now announced that they have added new sites to their picket line nationwide. The expanded strike will now also include Toyota, Hyundai, Nissan, Volkswagen, and other automakers. The organization has stated that they will be targeting some of these facilities with plans to expand to other locations throughout the country.
The UAW has also stated that they are taking additional steps to make sure their members are safe while on the picket line. They have distributed leaflets to the strikers, outlining their legal rights, and have provided medical kits filled with water bottles, sunscreen, and other items.
It has been reported that the UAW representatives are also seeking assistance from President Donald Trump, as well as other members of Congress, in their efforts to push for an acceptable contract with GM.
As the strike continues, it is yet to be seen whether or not the UAW’s demands will be met. For now, it is clear that more picketers will be out in full force in an effort to make their voices heard.
